The first flight of the simulated date, 27/04/2021 started at 20:45 UK time. The aim of this flight was to cross the Irish Sea and reach Ireland. This is a step towards visiting the Giant's Causeway in a later flight to see what it looks like in game. The chosen aircraft is fully filled with an expected arrival into Dublin in under an hour.
This is the first flight of a new flight session so have chosen to start on the runway ready for take off. The situation has changed since the last flight in that it is now dusk conditions and real world weather has been enabled to make things a little more interesting in the upcoming over sea flight.
Take off was, as usual a simple task and initial climb to 4500 feet in a westerly direction did not take long. Also, the weather did not take long to rear its head. Fortunately the UK is currently undergoing pretty good weather so some medium density cloud at 4000 feet and above appeared. This got a fair bit thicker the closer to Ireland I got.
During the flight, two other aircraft lights could be seen at various points ahead but none were anywhere near. Approaching Dublin, ATC informed me to go into a right traffic pattern which I dutifully managed without an issue this time. Before the final turn into final approach, I was able to pass within one mile of an Airbus landing at Dublin and was informed by ATC I had clearance to land and to follow the Airbus on landing.
I managed to land without any incident, passing a Pacific plane (737 I think) waiting at the end of the runway to be allowed to take off. After exiting the runway, ATC informed me of a very convoluted route to get to AT7 to park my plane. At this stage the taxi arrows decided to fail on me. So instead of trying to fix it properly, I read every sign until some familiar taxi routes appeared and took me "almost" to my destination. At this point I got lost...
Instead of giving up like a normal person, I chose to research the airport and find out where all the taxiways were (believe me, getting accurate information for FSX isn't that easy!) Anyway, after a while I figured out roughly where it was and found the AT7 sign. Not having a clue where I was meant to be parking I opted for an aerial view of my plane and discovered that there was a taxi routing after all just out of my sight! So I was able to follow this to the parking zone and shut down the plane for the night.
Next destination is Derry, also known as Eglinton!
